PRE-KINDERGARTEN – MRS. DONAGHEY, MRS. DRAPEAU & MS ANA
Hello, March! Everyone had an enjoyable time at our Valentine Parties! The children had lots of fun decorating their Valentine bags and making a card for that special someone. Thank you to all who sent in goodies for our parties! We also celebrated Chinese New Year. It lasts for fifteen days, red is the lucky color, and there is a parade at the end of the celebration with lanterns and a dragon. The children did a great job making their lanterns and dragons. We entertained the preschool class with our version of the dragon dance. Gung Hay Fat Choy! (Happy New Year!)

Our topic of discussion this past month was the Five Senses. So far, we have covered the senses of: touch, taste and hearing. The children learned that each sense sends a message to our brain. Did you know that we touch with our skin? The nerve endings under our skin let us know if we are touching something soft, hard, smooth, cold or warm. For those of you who do not know, those bumps on your tongue are called taste buds. Each part of our tongue is used to taste a particular type of flavor. Ask your child what part of the tongue is used for sweet & salty – tip; sour – sides; and bitter – back. Did you know that our ears are shaped like a baseball glove to catch the sounds? There are three parts to our ear – outer, inner and middle. The children also learned that some people cannot hear and they use their hands to talk (sign Language). Ask your child to show you the sign for the following words: thank you, Dad, Mom, and I love you.

Some of the books we read this month: The Five Senses; Stella; The Big Snowball Fight; and The Stranger in the Woods.
In like a lion, out like a lamb – that’s the month of March! We will finish the Five Senses and learn about different types of Transportation.

ACADEMICS: Shape-Heagon; Color – Black; Number – 8, Letters – Uu, Vv, Ww, and Xx. We will continue to review all letters and numbers and we will start writing our last names.

ART PROJECTS: Shamrocks, Rainbows, leprechauns, Easter bags, baskets, chicks and eggs.

PRESCHOOL – MS. SARAH, MRS. LILLEY and MS STEPHANIE
The windy month of March has blown in once again. February went by so fast! We had a blast learning about, and celebrating, Valentine’s Day. Everyone had such a good time at the parties. Thanks to all of you who brought in goodies. We were very busy decorating our room for Valentine’s Day – it looks so festive! We made ladybugs out of hearts, decorated Valentine Bags, decorated hearts, painted hearts, made snowflakes with hearts and penguins.

The color of the month was pink and the shape was the heart. We learned the letters Hh for Heart and Nn for Night. We are excited about St. Patrick’s Day. We will learn all about this special day. The teachers have so many projects planned: pots of gold, shamrock prints using cookie cutters, rainbows, festive hats, and shamrocks. We will continue our unit on Space.

The color for the month of March is black and the shape is the diamond. We will be practicing cutting with our scissors on a regular basis, as this month cutting with scissors will be formally introduced. Tracing will continue as will work on recognizing the letters of the alphabet and our shapes. We are excited to see if that crafty leprechaun leaves us a pot of “gold” – chocolate coins.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Enjoy the windy month!
