Fall and Summer RegistrationWe have been receiving a number of inquiries and early registrations for our preschool and pre-kindergarten programs for September, 2018.  As in the past, we want to give the students who are currently enrolled at Little Folks (and their siblings) the first opportunity to re-enroll (or enroll) for the September 2018 session. Registration forms for the September Session as well as the Summer Enrichment Camp are being sent home this week.  Reminder: There is a referral discount for any family that refers another student to our program when that student registers and enrolls in our program.

Please return the registration forms to the school by Friday, February 16th so we will have a better idea of the number of openings for the programs.  After February 16th, September registration will be open to the general public and will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

VacationFebruary 19th to 23rd is a public school vacation week.  Little Folks will be open.  If you wish to take this as your one week of vacation, please sign up before Friday, February 9th. Sign-up sheet is located on the office door.  The teachers’ schedule for this week must be in place by Monday, February 13th.  It is your responsibility to be sure your child’s name is on the list if you wish to take this as your vacation week.

Medicine/Flu UpdateParents are reminded to use discretion when sending a child to school with a cold, headache, cough, runny nose, etc.  If your child comes down with a fever, he/she must stay at home until they have had no fever for at least 24 hours without medication.  Additionally, if your child experiences vomiting he/she must stay at home for at least the following day after the episode.  A sick child will expose others, and will certainly not benefit from a group situation. Your child will be sent home if any symptoms of illness appear during the school day.

Woburn Kindergarten Registration Kindergarten registration for the Woburn Public Schools is held during the month of March.  Parents of children who do not live in Woburn should contact their local school administration office for the registration dates for their towns.  In Woburn, Burlington, Reading, Stoneham, and Winchester, children must be 5 years old before September 1, 2018 in order to enter kindergarten in September, 2018. Appointments are required to register children for kindergarten.  Parents should contact their child’s school for an appointment.

ReminderLittle Folks will be closed on Monday, February 19th – Presidents’ Day.

Prekindergarten – Mrs. Donaghey, Mrs. Drapeau and Ms. Ana

Where did the month of January go?  Our classroom looks like a winter wonderland.  The children put their creativity to work on the mittens, hats and snow people that are decorating our walls.  Did you get a chance to see their penguins waddling on the ice?

Our theme this past month was Polar Animals.  We talked about which animals live in the Arctic (North Pole): polar bears, walrus, killer whales, snowy owls, seals, and which ones live in Antarctica (South Pole): penguins and leopard seals.  They learned how the animals survive in their environment and what they eat.  We enjoyed singing our new song, “I’m a Little Penguin”, as we waddled around the room.  We also did an interactive story time with the book, The Mitten  by Jan Brett.  The children colored and cut their own props to use while we read the story.  Did they use them to tell you the story?  We would also like to say thank you to Noor’s mother for coming in and conducting science experiments with us!

Some of the books we read this month were:  Animals of the Polar Region, The Magical Snowman, and Stella.

Our theme for the month of February will be the Five Senses.  We will also learn about Chinese New Year, Presidents’ Day, and the legend of the Ground Hog.

Academics: Shape- Heart; Color – Pink; Number – 6; Letters – Qq, Rr, Ss and Tt. The children will continue to work on writing their first names.

Art Projects: Chinese lanterns, Dragons, Ground Hogs, and decorating for Valentine’s Day.

Our Valentine’s Day Party will be on Tuesday, February 13th.  Children may bring in Valentine cards to exchange with their friends.  A list of the children’s names will be sent home.  Please encourage your child to sign their own name.  A sign-up sheet will be posted if you would like to bring in goodies for the parties.

Have a great Valentine’s Day and a Fabulous February!!!!

Preschool – Ms. Sarah, Mrs. Lilley and Ms. Stephanie

February is here!  We are excited for Valentine’s Day and all of the fun that February brings!  January was a busy month.  We made beautiful snowmen, igloos, Arctic Animals, hat and mittens, snowflakes and snowmen.    We made a Classroom Heart.  We are continuing to work on recognizing the letters of the alphabet.  We worked on the letters Pp for Penguin   and Hh for Heart.  February will keep us just as busy.  We have lots of Valentine-themed projects planned.  We will be decorating our Valentine bags, making cookie-cutter prints, and decorating hearts.  We will be learning and reciting a new song, “Special Friend”.  For February, our shape is the heart and the color is pink.  Tracing will be introduced beginning with the circle shape.  We will be tracing circle, square, triangle, and rectangle shapes – in that order.  We will also be discussing Community Helpers.

Our Valentine’s Day parties will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 13th and 14th.  Please send in 28 cards with your child’s name on the back.  You do not need to address the envelopes.  A sign-up sheet will be by the door if you would like to bring in goodies for the parties.  Small, individual goodies are also welcome!!

Have a Happy Valentine’s Day!!
